The Pipeline Breaks Before High School
With a teacher vacancy rate of 31.3% — also ranked last in the state — Vance County classrooms are chronically understaffed in math and science. 43.9% of students were chronically absent in 2024. The K–12 pipeline is leaking at every stage, and the gap between where students are and where STEM careers require them to be is widening every year.
